Since coloring sheets have gone over so well at the daycare, I’ve decided to go ahead and keep using them. The teachers love the sheets and the practice the kids get with holding crayons.
How It Went
The kiddos were pretty much unfamiliar with anything except Max and Ruby, so I was glad to introduce them to more works by Rosemary Wells. She’s one of my favorite authors from my childhood and the first preschool program I ever did was a Max and Ruby program, so it’s close to my heart. Kids had the best time with “Max’s ABCs” and the corresponding activity of singing the ABCs to different tunes really blew their minds in the best of ways.

I haven’t often considered doing an author day, just to make the children more aware of the writers/authors of books. Thanks for sharing. I think that Eric Carle, Norman Bridwell, Stella Blacksone, Eric Litwin would be others to spotlight.

How did you do Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as an activity/flannelboard? We have the Velcro tree, but I want to make it more interactive for the kids. Thanks!
I have a flannel tree and flannel letters and tell the story (most of the kids chant along with me) as I put the pieces up on the board. I knock them down with my hand and generally speaking do not pick them up in order since it’d be difficult to do. I also had the Velcro tree at my old job and used to drop the tree to get the letters to fall off.
