Flannel Friday: Mouse Paint

And yet again, another flannelboard from the Storytime Katie archives. I made this flannel version of “Mouse Paint” and posted about it in my Colors storytime, but I wanted to pull it out and highlight it for Flannel Friday.

In the original post, I wrote this “brief” note for anyone who wanted to make their own versions:

(As a brief note — I did not make the spiraled paint splots and I did not make the dancing mice. Instead, I asked the kids to dance for the mice and we twirled our fingers in the air and I just overlapped the new color over the old. And, I did not make the paintbrushes and instead just used a real paintbrush before putting the color splots on the white piece of felt. I am all for creative flannel pieces, but I am also a big believer in the less pieces you have and the less you move the pieces around — the better the flannelboard works.)

The template for these pieces came from Kizclub.

I love those colorful legs without the bodies! They just make me giggle. This is a fun story and your flannel pieces are perfect!

Nice! This looks really good – thanks for re-posting it. As a one-time flannel creator, this looks like it could easily be made by story time programmers at public libraries.

Definitely — the clip art on Kizclub is super easy to follow. Thank you for re-blogging!

Reblogged this on At Home With Three Kids and commented:
As a library programmer and p/t children’s entertainer, this looks like it would be great fun once created. Definitely something you could use to capture young attention spans anytime – check it out!

I love the idea of using props. I think I’d give each child a paint brush to pretend with as well. Beautiful pieces, the mice look great.

I hadn’t thought of that! I will have to try it the next time I use this flannel.

Great flannel! Thanks for the re-share and the creative tip. 🙂

I love Miss Courtney’s idea of giving each child a paintbrush ~ I’ll have to re-read the story and see if I can make that work for my storytime friends.

    Thanks for sharing this week.
    I enjoyed your post.

I just had a brainstorm for creating the swirls: use fabric paints to paint a spiral on one side of the paint puddle. Use the solid side, then flip over to the side with the swirls, then as you suggested, swap out for the new color. I’m definitely making this one!

Thank you so much! I need to make a circle time lesson plan to present in my Child Development class, and my professor suggested Mouse Paint since the area is visual art. This is perfect!
