Flannel Friday: Leaves!

This week, I am inspired by Sarah of Awesome Storytime to make my own leaves and tree:

I will definitely be using the song that Sarah posted:

The Leaves of the Trees
(to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus”)
The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
orange and red, orange and red
The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
All through the town.

The leaves of the trees come tumbling down
tumbling down, tumbling down
The leaves of the trees come tumbling down
All through the town.

The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish,
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
All through the town.

Also, I made enough leaves to pass out to the kids, so it will also be an interactive flannel! I’ve got this one scheduled for a “Leaves” theme sometime this fall!

I just used a book for my toddler story time that reminded me of your post. It’s called Leaves on the Trees by Thom Wiley. It is a fall song set to Wheels on the Bus with the refrain “Autumn is here.” Each page has a different kind of leaf and a description- sassafras leaves look like dinosaur tracks, colors, shapes, etc. It was fun and the kids really liked it.

The book is on hold and on its way to my library — thank you so much for the suggestion!
