This week Flannel Friday is brought to you by this amazing blog post from Ikatbag (found via Pinterest) and a fabulous rhyme from Melissa!
I used this in Jobs storytime, and I plan to use it when I do a sweets-themed program. And who knows when else?
First, I did pat-a-cake and rolled out the flannel pieces on the board. Afterwards the kids and I “frosted” our flannel and make-believe cookies to sell in our shop, which led us to our rhyme:
Down around the corner in the bakery shop
Were five little cookies with sprinkles on top…
Along came someone with a nickel to pay
And they bought a little cookie and they took it away.
This was a great rhyme to use and the kids really enjoyed the interactive portion of the flannel. It was a LOT of work, but again it’s something that I really enjoy doing in my spare time, so I’m not bothered at all by a lot of work!

These seem like a lot of work, but they are probably any little kid’s dream gift. Gosh, I think I’ll be busy when birthdays come around! These are spectacular! Great job!
This is one of the cutest flannelboards that I’ve seen yet!
I just used this rhyme in my storyhour today! But a little differently:
Down around the corner at the bakery shop, there were __#__ little cookies with sugar on top.
Along came (child’s name), all alone, she picked up the (color) one and she ran home.
As usual, I was in a rush so I just cheated with my flannels, did a clipart of a cookie and printed it out on five different colors of paper. But it was so much fun I think I will try to make a nice flannel set.
How did you make this, I teach a high school class where my high school students teach preschool. they want to make this great flannel board for the Laura Numeroff week. Give a Mouse a Cookie but we can’t find a die cut that would give us these pretty circles. can you help us?
I actually used a cookie cutter as my template. I traced its shape on a piece of paper to get me the design I wanted. Hope this helps your class!
I just used this for Thanksgiving week, replacing
“Were five little cookies with sprinkles on top”
with
“Were five pumpkin pies with whipped cream on top”
(and since I didn’t have time to make fancy flannel pies I just found a great photo to print and laminate!)
