Today’s Flannel Friday came way of a Pinterest pin, which I free-cut out, just by looking at the picture.
I used these finger puppets with my Owls storytime this past year. I did do the traditional “Two Little Blackbirds,” just modified. Super simple, very pleasing for the kids!

Five little monsters jumping on the bed…
These adorable monsters were inspired by this Pinterest pin! I used them during Monster Storytime with the familiar song “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.”
I used puffy paint for the eyes, since I didn’t feel like doing French knots! I tried to make them look a little ambiguous so that I could maybe use them as aliens and other creatures. That is, if I ever do an alien storytime!

Since summer reading ended, I’ve been able to start concentrating on making my flannelboards and props for fall storytime. First up on my list of planned themes is elephants! So I made these adorable finger puppets:
I used the pattern that was linked from this craft: Tippytoe Crafts to make the finger puppets. I did stuff their heads with some polyfill which makes them a little puffier that just flat flannel pieces.
I’m planning on modifying the “Two Little Blackbirds” rhyme just by substituting elephants in there and I know that it will be a big hit for me and my families!

I finished up another set of finger puppets from Floral Blossom’s Etsy shop! I cannot say enough nice things about Widia’s patterns. This is my THIRD set and I’ve still got two more sets purchased and waiting to be sewn!
I will be using these during Letter Z storytime, to act out this song:

I finished up another set of finger puppets from Floral Blossom’s Etsy shop! I cannot say enough nice things about Widia’s patterns. They are clear, crisp, and so easy to follow! And the kids just absolutely love these pieces.
Anyway, this week I made some puppies!
There’s a lot of rhymes that you can use with these, but the rhyme I plan to use is as follows:
Flannelboard/Fingerplay: “Five Little Puppies”
Five little puppies were playing in the sun. (Hold up hand, fingers extended.)
This one saw a rabbit, and he began to run. (Bend first finger.)
This one saw a butterfly, and he began to race. (Bend second finger.)
This one saw a pussycat, and he began to chase. (Bend third finger.)
This one tried to catch his tail, and he went round & round. (Bend fourth finger.)
This one was so quiet, he never made a sound. (Bend thumb.)

When Andrea first posted her Flannel Friday contribution of these amazing bunny fingerpuppets from Purl Bee, I was IN LOVE. But…at the time, I was not a confident sewer and I didn’t feel like I could handle it. Fast-forward almost a year and…
BUNNIES! The cutting took me about an hour, and the sewing averaged out to be a half-hour per bunny! And yes, I did the full Martha and made my own little yarn pompoms. I made these for Easter storytime (that didn’t happen), but will also be using it at spring storytime, and if I do a bunny storytime again.
I will be using this rhyme with them:
“Five Little Bunnies”
Hippety hop and hippety hay,
Five little bunnies went out to play.
Hippety hop and hippety hay,
One little bunny hopped away.
(No more bunnies are playing today,
I hope they come back another day.)

The pattern is wonderfully easy to follow (this was honestly my first time following a pattern that involved sewing) and I had no trouble making these. (I actually made them on the plane and in my hotel room at ALA Midwinter, haha!)
I haven’t used them in storytime yet, but obviously farm animals have a lot of potential!
