I’m back for this week’s Flannel Friday, with a rhyme from Melissa at Mel’s Desk.
Put up the five kernel shapes on the board, as spread out as you can. When you say POP! slap a white popcorn shape right on top of one of the kernels.
Five Little Kernels
Five little kernels sizzling in the pot
All of a sudden, one went POP!
Four little kernels… etc.
I used this in camping storytime and it was a hit! Also, it’s super easy to make since Melissa has the templates available on her blog.

Andrea is hosting Flannel Friday this week and she’s trying out a link system for easy collection! You can also visit the Flannel Friday website to learn more.
Yay! They turned out GREAT! I love the idea to put it in a camping storytime–perfect fit!
Thanks for your template — it was such a quick flannelboard to make, with SUCH a big wow factor for the kids!
Yes, I think “Wow!” is the word for it. Simple, quick, and fun. A triple threat! Lol
I had not seen this on Melissa’s site so I am glad you shared it this week. So great to see “inspired by” posts each week. :o)
Btw, this would be a fun addition to any storytime using the book, The Popcorn Dragon. And it might be fun to make enough for each child to add the popped corn ~ if you have a smaller storytime…
It’s definitely a great way to see round-ups that you may have missed or forgotten about! It’s impossible to keep up with all the Flannel Friday goodness we keep adding every week!
Popcorn – on Greg and Steve’s album We All Live Together v.5. I have the kids do the motions of preparing popcorn. Then at the chorus after they sing ‘popcorn’, we all jump and shout popcorn to echo. I do it every week and the kids LOVE it.
Thanks for the flannel and rhyme ideas…I think my kids would love a popcorn theme soon!
